The Cincinnati Reds signed former University of Louisville star and All-American Chris Dominguez to a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to spring training, the team announced on Wednesday.
Dominguez, 28, made his MLB debut last season for the defending World Series champion Giants, playing in just eight games for San Francisco. While he had just one hit in his 17 plate appearances for the Giants, he made it count - getting his first MLB hit and home run in the same at-bat. That wasn't enough for San Francisco, however, who released him last week.

A third-round pick in the 2009 amateur draft, Dominguez posted a .274/.307/.460 slash line with 21 home runs at Triple-A Fresno last season. With the Grizzlies, he showcased tremendous versatility, seeing time at hird base, shortstop, first base, left field and right field. He's a career .278/.312/.446 hitter at Triple-A.
If Dominguez pans out, he could provide some right-handed utility power for the Reds after he smacked 94 home runs in portions of six seasons in the minor leagues.
