Hanging out on the periphery of the NL Central pennant race, the Cincinnati Reds have been reportedly scouring the trade market for upgrades to what has been an inconsistent starting lineup in 2014.
However, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports, the Reds are actually shopping one of their own bats, Ryan Ludwick, prior to tomorrow's non-waiver trade deadline:
The #Reds are telling teams LF Ryan Ludwick is available, He's earning $7.5M, w/ $9 millilon mutual option or $4.5 million buyout in 2015..
— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) July 31, 2014
The 36-year-old left fielder is currently hitting .261/.325/.392 with just six home runs this season. This represents a sharp drop-off in his power numbers comparatively to his 26 home runs and 80 RBIs back in 2012, which can partially attributed to him not being all the way back from an injury-filled 2013 season.
Ludwick is currently making $7.5 million this season, with a $9 million mutual option in 2015. Said option could be a problem, seeing that it comes with a pricey $4.5 million buyout.
