We're less than three weeks away from the 2015 MLB trade deadline, which means there are plenty of rumors swirling around the Cincinnati Reds and what they might do on the trade market. Here are three trades they could make by the deadline:
Trade Johnny Cueto to the Boston Red Sox for Brock Holt, Henry Owens, Deven Marrero
Cueto is the top pitcher on the market, and the Red Sox desperately need a boost to their rotation. Even though they're in last place in the AL East, they're only 6.5 games out of first and still have plenty of time to make a move. However, the Reds shouldn't give up Cueto for cheap, and this trade gives them a good haul in return.
Holt was a surprising All-Star this year, but his ability to play anywhere on the field would be extremely valuable to the Reds' rebuild. Pitcher Owens and shortstop Marrero (who was recently called up to the majors) are two of Boston's top prospects, and guys Cincinnati would be smart to ask for.
Trade Aroldis Chapman to the Detroit Tigers for plethora of young prospects
Chapman has been one of the best and most consistent closers in the league since 2012, but he may be a key piece moved at the deadline because of what the Reds can get in return for him.
Detroit is trying to keep pace with the Royals in the AL Central and have a desperate need for a closer. Since they're in win-now mode, the Tigers should be willing to give up several talented prospects to add a major piece to their struggling bullpen.
Trade Jay Bruce to the New York Yankees for prospects
Bruce only has another year and a half on his contract, and his struggles this season (.251 BA, .341 OBP) have made him expendable. This is a sell-low option for Cincy, meaning they probably won't be any current major league players, but loading up on talented prospects will do wonders for the Reds in the future.
