You can’t win them all every single month of every single baseball season, and these next three guys are living proof of that. Here’s our list of 3 Cincinnati Reds Players Who Have Been A Disappointment So Far In 2015.
OF Jay Bruce
We include Bruce with a caveat seeing that he turned things around with a .840 OPS in June. However, he was mired in a terrible slump for the better part of two months, creating a void in the middle of the lineup that put the scuffling Reds behind the eight ball. Bruce's production has declined in recent seasons and he's currently at the center of major trade speculation -- a troublesome fall from the heights Cincinnati expected signing him to a backloaded six-year, $51 million deal before the 2011 season.
RHP Jason Marquis
He was released by the team in mid-June, but we'd be hard-pressed not to include Marquis on this list. The 14-year veteran sputtered something fierce in nine starts with the Reds, giving up four earned runs or more six times while making it into the 7th inning just twice. His 6.46 ERA will likely scare off suitors down the stretch, unless they're looking for a long man who can eat innings in the middle of blowouts.
LF Skip Schumaker
We understand that it's Schumaker's positional flexibility that makes him such a valued commodity and trade chip, but he's still a black hole in the lineup that provides no production and basically adds a second pitcher's spot at the bottom of the order. Hitting 63 points less than his career average of .279, Schumaker will likely be dealt before the deadline for peanuts on the dollar.
