TDBH: Bengals re-shape LBs corps with Maualuga release

The Bengals begin a massive youth movement in their linebackers corps that will take more than a year when they terminate long-time middle linebacker Ray Maualuga on today’s waiver wire. The Bengals replace him with 26-year-old free agent Kevin Minter on a one-year deal in a move that doesn’t end up taking and a year later they replace Minter with a middle backer even younger in 25-year-old Preston Brown, the NFL’s leading tackler and homegrown Cincinnati product. In the past two weeks, the 30-year-old Maualuga is the second thirtysomething backer to exit, joining 35-year-old Karlos Dansby. That leaves all-purpose backup Vincent Rey, who turns 30 during the first week of the regular season, as their oldest linebacker.
