In the market for a starting cornerback, the Bengals get their kind of guy in the young, ascending Ashley Ambrose of the Colts tonight when they ink their biggest deal of the three-year free agency system. Ambrose, 25, becomes the franchise’s first $1 million per year corner with a three-year contract in the $5 million neighborhood that pays off at the end of the season when he becomes their first Pro Bowler at that position since Eric Thomas eight years ago. It’s a mutually beneficial deal since Ambrose is looking for playing time after logging just 12 starts since the Colts take him with the first pick of the second round in the 1992 draft.
