TDBH: Bengals grab three first-rounders after trading No. 1 pick to Pats

After BYU quarterback Steve Young turns down their five-year, $3.5 million offer for an unprecedented $40 million deal from the USFL last month, the Bengals trade the NFL Draft’s first pick this afternoon to New England for the 16^th and 28^th picks in the first round to go with their own seventh pick in the May 1 first round. The Pats nearly get beat this morning when another club makes a run at Riverfront Stadium, but when Pats GM Pat Sullivan sweetens the deal with a 10^th-round pick this year and a fifth-round pick next year, the Bengals now have four picks in the first 38 in ‘84.
