Sheldon Rankins’ presence could prime Trey Hendrickson for another career year

If there was one bright spot from the disastrous Cincinnati Bengals 2023 season, it was the career year of edge rusher Trey Hendrickson. Pro Football Focus gave him a season grade of 90.7 as a pass rusher, and they credited him with 20 sacks throughout the season.

Officially, he tied for second in the league with 17.5 sacks with Josh Allen, just 1.5 sacks behind the leader, TJ Watt. Neither Watt nor Hendrickson won the AP Defensive Player of the Year. That award went to Myles Garrett.

What I can say, though, is that had the Bengals stayed healthy and were contenders the way they were the previous two seasons, what Hendrickson was doing and what he did would have been a much bigger deal than it was.
