The San Francisco 49ers plan to release their longest tenured defensive player, outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks, according to a report from sacbee.com's Matt Barrows, who cited multiple sources.
The 33-year-old Brooks was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round of the 2006 NFL Supplemental Draft. He appeared in 11 games - including five starts - for the Bengals as a rookie, and started the first two games for the team in 2007 before a groin injury ended his season.
The Bengals released him during final cuts in August of 2008, and the Niners claimed him off waivers the following day.
