The Bengals’ Adam “Pacman” Jones may be the first NFL player since 2000 whose criminal prosecution is delayed until after the league decides on a punishment.
Three weeks ago, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said he would put the case on hold and wait to find out what kind of fine and/or suspension the league imposes on Jones.
A researcher who studies NFL player arrests said the handling of Jones’ case appears to be “an aberration.”
“In most cases, the criminal justice system is going to make a decision before the NFL,” said Alex Piquero, a criminology professor at the University of Texas at Dallas.
