The Detroit Lions fired special teams coordinator Brayden Coombs on Monday, a day after he called an unauthorized fake punt against the Tennessee Titans.
Coombs, 34, was in his first season with the Lions after spending 10 years with the Cincinnati Bengals. He is also a Colerain High School and Miami University grad.
On Sunday, with the Lions trailing 32-18 early in the fourth quarter, they ran a fake punt on fourth-and-4 at their own 31-yard line.
C.J. Moore took a direct snap from Don Muhlbach and ran to the short side of the field, where he was stopped inches short of a first down.
