With Randy Bullock straining his back late Monday, the Cincinnati Bengals hoped their kicker would recover enough during the week to be able to kick on Sunday.

The club signed free-agent kicker Marshall Koehn as an insurance policy, the team announced Saturday.

To make room on the roster, the Bengals released safety Derron Smith.

Bullock missed practice altogether on Wednesday, kicked on a limited basis on Thursday and did not kick Friday, per head coach Marvin Lewis.
