Inspired by his upbringing in Athens, Ohio, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow announced the creation of an endowment to fight hunger in Southeastern Ohio on July 9.
“I’m so grateful for the outpouring of support from people across the country around the food insecurity issues faced by those in my region,” Burrow said in a statement. “I am honored to lend my support and voice to this new initiative that will ensure that impact lasts long into the future.”
The Joe Burrow Hunger Relief Fund – a mix of public donations and matching funds – currently stands at $700,000 and will go toward purchasing food, as well as financing other programming to help the Athens County Food Pantry achieve its goal of eradicating food insecurity in Southeast Ohio.
