Landover, Md. — The Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Redskins were in preseason form Thursday night as the first quarter was about as sloppy as professional football gets.
Cincinnati was penalized seven times (six on offense) in the first quarter. The Bengals had 60 yards in penalties and 64 total yards at the conclusion of the first period. To make matter worse, Andy Dalton had a pass tipped at the line of scrimmage by Washington defensive tackle Daron Payne in the red zone and it was intercepted by safety Montae Nicholson and taken 96 yards to the house.
The first-string offense took a step back from their performance in Kansas City.
