At first, Trey Hendrickson didn’t believe him.
It was right after his junior season at Apopka High School in central Florida. In 2012, Hendrickson was a starting defensive end, a useful player receiving some attention from FCS schools. So when Hendrickson walked into Apopka head coach Rick Darlington’s office, he wasn’t expecting to be kicked off the high school football team.
“He was just being a goofball,” Darlington told The Enquirer. “He didn’t do anything crazy, but he was becoming a worse student, disrespectful and a bad teammate. We punished him, but he wasn’t getting it with the punishments.
