CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict again has drawn scrutiny for an on-the-field incident after receiving a $75,000 fine by the NFL -- which he has appealed -- for allegedly stomping on Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount on Sunday.
The Bengals believe Burfict plays with a giant target on his back these days. They understand why, but they don’t necessarily think it’s fair.
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said Burfict did nothing wrong, and in the locker room on Wednesday, his teammates all defended him as well.
“He’s [targeted], but everybody knows what it is,” said Bengals cornerback Adam Jones.
