On the first third down of the Cincinnati Bengals loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Bengals cornerback Chidobe Awuzie and linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither were waiting to see how the Packers lined up when they broke the huddle.
While they waited, Awuzie stood closer to the sideline than Davis-Gaither. But when Packers star wide receiver Davante Adams lined up in the slot, Davis-Gaither scrambled to make sure he switched assignments with Awuzie.
The game plan was for Awuzie to follow Adams as much as possible on Sunday. When Adams tried to catch the Bengals off-guard and lined up against Davis-Gaither, the Bengals linebacker waved his arms like Carlton Fisk to get Awuzie’s attention and signaled they needed to switch matchups.
