Just four years ago, the Cincinnati Bengals drafted a kicker early in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Jake Elliott was selected to be the team’s long-term replacement for Mike Nugent, but after an imperfect training camp and preseason, Elliott was waived and Randy Bullock was crowned as the winner of a competition that should’ve never existed in the first place.
Cincinnati seems like they don’t want to go down that path again.
Zac Taylor wasn’t around for the Elliott debacle. The same can’t be said for special teams coordinator and current assistant head coach Darrin Simmons.
