The Cincinnati Bengals lost in the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs for the fourth straight season, and are looking to finally get over the hump. Here are three reasons while they'll do just that and hoist the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the year:
1) Explosive playmakers
Wide receiver A.J. Green and running back Giovani Bernard are two of the best players at their position in the NFL, and both a threats to score a touchdown every time they touch the ball. Add in fellow running back Jeremy Hill as a physical, downhill runner, and Cincinnati is a team that can attack opponents in a variety of ways.
2) Influx of young talent in need areas
This draft earns an extra tick on the grading scale for fully covering the Bengals’ need chart, but there are concerns about offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi’s health following a torn ACL. Regardless, he’s a game-changer if 100% and adding a stud like offensive lineman Jake Fisher to the line as well is going to do wonders for the team’s zone blocking. Keep your eye on free safety Derron Smith. He’s also struggled with health issues, but he’s one of the best cover safeties of a shallow draft class when he’s on the field.
3) Upgraded defense
While Cincinnati improved their offensive line in the draft, they upgrade their defensive front seven in free agency. The Bengals brought in LB A.J. Hawk and DT Phil Sims and re-signed LB Rey Maualuga and DE Michael Johnson, providing depth to a unit that desperately needs it.
