Cincinnati Bearcats starting quarterback and All-Amazing Team captain (in my head) Gunner Kiel has been named to the 2015 Maxwell Award Watch List, given to college football’s Player of the Year.
Oregon’s Marcus Mariota walked away with the hardware last season after an incredible junior campaign that saw him throw for over 4,400 yards and 42 touchdowns to just four picks. Could Gunner Kiel hit or even surpass those numbers? Sure.
The good news for Kiel is that the Maxwell Award has historically gone to quarterbacks. The only player in the last ten years to not play the position was Notre Dame linebacker Manti T’eo.
