The University of Cincinnati track and field program nearly had its first men's national champion this week, in the 2017 NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
UC junior Adrian Valles (Pamplona, Spain) placed second in the men’s pole vault, as he cleared 5.55m (18-02.50) late Wednesday at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field. The height matched Valles' season best and secured him All-America honors.
Valles tied Al Lanier for the best finish by a UC man in program history, after Lanier finished second four times in the long jump, including the 1972 indoor and outdoor and 1973 indoor and outdoor NCAA events.
