UC golfer Squires shoots even-par in NCAA 1st round

University of Cincinnati sophomore Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) shot an even-par 72 to tie nine other players for 14th place Monday during opening-round play at the NCAA Tournament, at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex (Kampen Course) in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Squires, playing as an individual, enters Tuesday’s second round five strokes behind tournament leader UNLV’s John Oda, who shot a 5-under 67. Squires will tee off Tuesday at 10:12 a.m. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com. The three-day event ends Wednesday.

Among individuals, Squires tied for the fourth-best score Monday. The low five teams and the low individual not from one of those five advancing teams will advance to the finals May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
