The final margin was 21 but there wasn't much pretty about the University of Cincinnati's 77-56 win over South Carolina State other than its Saturday evening ending. That and the thrift shop holiday garb for Ugly Sweater Day could be boxed up for next year's festivities.
With Jarron Cumberland hitting three late 3-pointers, UC went on a 17-0 run over the final 1:51 to pull away from the pesky Bulldogs who had crept within a dozen. South Carolina State came into the game 2-13 and down to eight players, six on scholarship and a pair of walk-ons.
