Over the last four Crosstown Shootouts, the Xavier Musketeers senior guard Paul Scruggs had watched, and he had waited.
As a freshman in 2017, Scruggs watched forward Trevon Bluiett carry the Xavier Musketeers to a dominant win over the No. 11 Bearcats. In 2018, Scruggs witnessed UC forward Jarron Cumberland lead the Bearcats to a win down the stretch. Then last year, Scruggs saw Xavier forward Naji Marshall score a career-high 31-points in Xavier’s biggest win of the season.
Finally, Scruggs had his own career-defining moment in the Crosstown Shootout.
In his last game against the University of Cincinnati, Scruggs had a game-high 20 points, including two late free throws that clinched Xavier’s 77-69 win over the Bearcats.
