DerMarr Johnson thought he’d live forever. We all do.
At a certain age, talent and youth cross paths at a sweet spot in time and what we know right then and there is, we’re going to live a good long while and do precisely what we choose. That time for Johnson was 19 years ago, half his lifetime ago, when the Atlanta Hawks took him with the 6th overall pick in the NBA draft.
“I imagined playing basketball the rest of my life. I’m not thinking about getting old or my career ever ending,’’ Johnson said Friday.
