The Cincinnati Bearcats’ newest commitment in the 2016 class is Mason, Ohio safety Ty Sponseller. The news was first reported by Sam Kwiatkowski. It’s not often UC grabs recruits from the football programs in the Northern suburbs, let alone Mason. Sponseller is the first player from this school to commit to Cincinnati since at least 2002. Part of that trend is the fact that the negative mantra about an urban university very much exists in this region. The other part of it is that Comets football doesn’t produce a ton of college-ready talent and as a result the Bearcats don’t invest much time and resources there.
