Over the weekend, Cincinnati lost one of its greatest sports heroes.
Former Junior Welterweight Champion and Cincinnati native Aaron “The Hawk” Pryor passed away at the age of 60.
Pryor was a decorated world champion who only lost once in his illustrious career. As an amateur, he won the National Golden Gloves champion against future boxing legend Tommy “The Hitman” Hearns. Drug abuse derailed Pryor’s career, but he later overcame his substance abuse problems and became a highly regarded anti-narcotics spokesman.
For those of you unfamiliar with Pryor’s work, I suggest you take the time this bye week to watch his most legendary fight: a brutal 14 round TKO victory over the similarly legendary Alexis Arguello at Miami’s Orange Bowl on November 12, 1982.
