Bill Faul is listed as 5-feet-10 by more than one source, but his 1958 Goshen High School baseball teammate, Tim Moore, considers that height to be an exaggeration.
“He was more like 5-8, but he was strong,” said Moore, a sophomore infielder.
Regardless of his size, Faul loomed large as the Warriors’ primary pitcher, especially in the 1958 season. The right-hander, whose submarine-style delivery was challenging for right-handed batters, went 13-0 while Goshen was going 16-0 and capturing Ohio’s Class A state championship.
After losing just once in 1957, to Clermont County-rival Amelia, many fans in the tight-knit Goshen community expected the Warriors to contend for a state championship in 1958 – and they weren’t shy about letting first-year coach Joe Denehy know it.
