Our latest Video Vault is a blast from the past, going back to the 1962 National Championship.
I came across this "News of the Day" reel of Cincinnati's successful defense of its national title in 1962. For the second straight year, Ed Jucker's Cincinnati Bearcats defeated Fred Taylor's Ohio State Buckeyes, a team that included future NBA legends Jerry Lucas and John Havlicek.
In the 1961 Final Four, the Bearcats beat the previously undefeated Buckeyes 70-65 in the national title game. In 1962, Cincinnati cruised to victory over their cross-state rivals, 70-59. In the 1962 title game, Paul Hogue led UC to victory with 22 points and 19 rebounds.
