Former UC, NBA player Ruben Patterson owes $100K in child support, says prosecutor

Former Lakers and University of Cincinnati basketball player Ruben Patterson owes $106,834 in child support in Butler County, prosecutors said.

Patterson turned himself last week on a felony charge of nonsupport of dependents, Butler County Prosecutor Michael Gmoser said.

"After playing college basketball at the University of Cincinnati, Patterson played professionally for several major U.S. teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets," Gmoser said in a news release. "During the span of his 10-year career, Patterson reportedly earned over 36 million dollars."

The self-described "Kobe Stopper" is now 43. He is scheduled to enter a plea in court in early September in the court of Judge Jennifer Muench-McElfresh.
