The Cincinnati Bearcats' football program and defensive back Noah Hamlin parted ways earlier this month, a process that left UC coach Luke Fickell reflecting on circumstances from the past.
Specifically, Fickell recalled Jonathan Newsome, once a promising Ohio State linebacker when Fickell served as Buckeyes' co-defensive coordinator. Newsome transferred, ended up at Ball State and eventually was taken in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts.
"We didn’t get rid of many guys, but I had to say we need to let (Newsome) go," Fickell said.
