The University of Cincinnati has selected Swedish construction firm Skanska and partner Megen Construction to perform renovation work on Fifth Third Arena, home to Bearcats mens’ and womens’ basketball and volleyball programs since 1989. Thankfully, they did not select Swedish architecture collective SVEN to do the design work – that responsibility went to renowned sports architecture firm Populous, which has designed countless scores of pro and college ballparks, arenas, and stadiums.
Total cost of the renovations is slated for $70 Million, and work is scheduled to begin next month. The signing of a contract signals the end of uncertainty surrounding when (and if) the renovation plan would proceed.
