Xavier University made a bid to keep Scott Googins as baseball coach, but Googins instead will tackle a new challenge as head coach at crosstown rival Cincinnati.
UC introduced Googins to the media Wednesday at the Bearcats' Richard E. Lindner Center. Googins accepted the job Tuesday and replaced Ty Neal, who resigned last month after four seasons and a 91-130 record.
"(Xavier) wanted to keep me and I commend them for that, and I'm grateful for that," Googins said. "I just think it was an opportunity for me to take the next challenge.
