Cincinnati running back Charles McClelland will miss the season due to a knee injury, coach Luke Fickell confirmed Tuesday.
The sophomore from Homerville, Georgia had an impressive training camp, according to accounts from Fickell and teammates, and was listed as the third option in the backfield behind Michael Warren II and Gerrid Doaks.
McClelland's presence was important, though, due to a different running style than Warren and Doaks and also because sophomore Tavion Thomas was ruled out by Fickell for Thursday's season-opener (and perhaps longer) for undisclosed reasons.
