The Cincinnati Bearcats snapped a four game winning streak with a 63-59 loss to the Memphis Tigers this afternoon that caused their NCAA Tournament hopes to hit a snag.
UC had no one but themselves to blame for this defeat. They simple couldn’t overcome a slow and sloppy first half in which they were outscored 39-24 by Memphis. Cincinnati committed nine turnovers in the frame to the Tigers’ five, were out-rebounded 26-16, and outscored 18-8 in the paint. The Bearcats shot just 31% from the field in that half and a paltry 28% from two.
The Tigers’ strength is certainly the front court, with Shaq Goodwin and Dedric Lawson able to grab rebounds and negate opposing big men with the best of them.
