Dan Hoard wants to make sure everybody understands the real reason Chuck Machock was ejected from Cincinnati's 2003 NCAA Tournament game against Gonzaga.
You likely know the details. Bearcats' coach Bob Huggins was ejected by referee Mike Kitts for drawing back-to-back technical fouls for arguing what he thought was a no-call. Not long after, Machock was also tossed after an exchange with Kitts.
The moment added to Machock's legend as one of the most influential figures in Bearcats' athletics history. But, according to Hoard, a common account of that night – that of a homer announcer disagreeing with a call – isn't accurate.
