Caupain leads UC basketball award winners

Senior point guard Troy Caupain was among six Bearcats who won multiple awards Wednesday night at the University of Cincinnati men’s basketball banquet at the original Montgomery Inn.

Caupain won a team-high four awards, including being the team’s assists leader this season, receiving second team all-conference honors, joining the 1,000-point club and becoming the school’s career assists leader. Caupain averaged a team-best 4.4 assists, ranking sixth in the American Athletic Conference. He finished first in the league and fifth nationally with a 3.36-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Capping a season that saw the Bearcats (30-6) achieve the second-most wins in school history, tie the school mark for conference victories (16) and advance to their seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament, the banquet featured remarks from head coach Mick Cronin and the three departing seniors: Caupain, Kevin Johnson and Zack Tobler.
