By any statistical measure and the eyeball test, University of Cincinnati basketball senior Jarron Cumberland has not played at the level that earned him American Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors last season.
Cumberland hasn't played like a star. And the Bearcats, in their first season under the direction of coach John Brannen, are 6-4 with significant games this week against No. 19 Tennessee and Iowa.
Perhaps Saturday's baffling loss to Colgate – where Cumberland lost track of time and score and flung a half-court shot attempt with five seconds remaining that resulted in a Raiders' rebound, foul and a game-winning free throw – represents a potential inflection point.
