The big news from the University of Cincinnati’s 94-53 destruction of South Florida on Sunday was that sharpshooting UC freshman guard Jarron Cumberland, from Wilmington High School, is nicknamed “Teddy.”
Cumberland, who scored a career-high 26 points, tried to suppress laughter as loquacious teammate Kyle Washington explained the nickname in the postgame interview room. Washington, a junior forward, backed Cumberland with 13 points.
“I was eating some Teddy Grahams one day in the hotel,” Washington said, referencing a recent road trip. “I was just looking at him and I was like, ‘You’re a big, strong, graham cracker-eating type dude, aren’t you?
