The American Athletic Conference canceled its men’s postseason basketball tournament due to concerns about the novel coronavirus outbreak, the league announced Thursday.
"This is a proactive decision to protect the safety, health and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches and staff and all involved with the tournament," said a league spokesperson via a statement.
The event was scheduled to take place March 12-15 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
COVID-19, which stands for coronavirus disease 2019, is caused by a virus named SARS-CoV-2.
