Chicago White Sox righty Jeff Samardzija is having a solid enough yet for the club in 2015, but his numbers may not match up with the haul the White Sox are looking for to move him before the July 31st MLB Trade Deadline.
"According to one interested party, the asking price on Jeff Samardzija is four players," CBS Sports' Jon Heyman writes. "That sounds like a lot, but of course, unless the players are known, it's not possible to tell for sure. In any case, they weren't rushing to do it."
The White Sox are currently 13.5 games out in the AL Central and seven games out in a crowded AL Wild Card race, so pawning off a rental player such as Samardzija seems logical. However, it's possible they will drag things out and wait for marquee trades (Cole Hamels, Johnny Cueto) to take place, fleecing a team in desperate need of another starter in the wee hours before the trade deadline.
Samardzija, 30, is pitching to a 3.91 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP with 108 strikeouts in 140.1 innings this year. He has been spectacular in July, giving up just 18 hits and 6 earned runs in 31.2 innings (1.71 ERA).
