Chicago White Sox righty Jeff Samardzija will be one of the most discussed and coveted starters in Major League Baseball as we inch close to the July 31st MLB trade deadline, with several teams poised to make a run at Samardzija over the next few weeks.
"Kansas City, Houston, Detroit, and others are in on him," Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe wrote on Sunday. "Scouts are constantly at his games so he may be the first starting pitcher moved ahead of the trading deadline."
While it may not behoove the White Sox to do business with teams in their own division, the Royals and Tigers two of the teams best suited to provide Chicago with the return they'll be looking for to give up Samardzija on a rental.
Heading towards free agency next winter, Samardzija has regressed from a banner 2014 campaign with a 4.02 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and .269 batting average against.
However, the 30-year-old has raised his stock the past week or so -- giving up just one run in 16.2 innings over his last two starts.
