Many have written off a Jeff Samardzija trade as a foregone conclusion, but a muddled American League playoff race where no team is out of the AL Wild Card chase could lead the Chicago White Sox to hold on to the former Chicago Cubs/Oakland A's ace for the remainder of the year.
However, the Chicago Tribune's Colleen Kane believes "they’d be silly not to listen to offers from suitors, especially considering what he has done to boost his stock over the last month. If the return is good enough, I see the Sox letting Samardzija go, even if they do like what he has brought to the table. The Sox have said they’re focused on building for the next few years -- not just this year -- and getting a younger, longer-term player in exchange for Samardzija might be a way to do that."
Samardzija has an affordable tag for the 2015 MLB season and has been brilliant over his last two starts, giving up just 1 run and striking out 14 over 16.2 innings.
Overall, the 30-year-old righty is 6-4 with a 4.02 ERA and 1.22 WHIP.
