'You must understand your body:' Avisail Garcia has his head on straight now at the plate

“Like from here to here,” the White Sox right fielder said as he demonstrated how much his head was moving while swinging a bat throughout the early stages of his major-league career.

With a hitter having just a split-second to react to a pitched ball, that movement proved detrimental to Garcia’s development.

“When they threw me a fastball at 90 mph, I would miss it because I was leaning too far ahead and I was jumping,” Garcia said. “You can’t hit like that, so I made the adjustments. When you have more time, you can see the ball better and stay behind it.
