The glass ceiling shattered on November 13, 2020 when the Miami Marlins hired Kim Ng as their General Manager. Ng is the first female to hold this position and the first in the four major sports: Baseball, Basketball, Hockey and Football.
She began her career as an intern in the baseball operations department with the Chicago White Sox and was eventually hired full-time in 1991. Ng climbed the ladder at the White Sox, ultimately becoming the Assistant Director of Baseball Operations, serving under General Manager Ron Schueler in 1995.
In 1997, Ng left the White Sox to work for GM Brian Cashman at the New York Yankees, becoming the Assistant General Manager, becoming the youngest Assistant GM in history and only the second in MLB.
