“You don’t mess with Grace,” says Major League Baseball’s first female General Manager Kim Ng.
It is perhaps the highest compliment from one of sports’ most inspiring trailblazers.
The White Sox continue Women’s History Month by spotlighting Grace Guerrero Zwit, who in 1982, became the first woman to work in the organization’s baseball operations department.
Zwit, a daughter to Mexican immigrants, was raised in the South Side of Chicago in a household that predominately spoke Spanish. It would not take long before teachers and classmates at grammar school helped Zwit master English nuances and begin incorporating more of this vocabulary in her conversations at home.
