White Sox's Omar Narvaez serving as James Shields' personal catcher vs. Royals

Trying to maximize James Shields’ effectiveness, the White Sox are giving the left-handed-hitting Omar Narvaez a start behind the plate Tuesday night against Royals lefty Danny Duffy.

Narvaez has caught each of Shields’ last seven starts as the Sox look to build a trade market for the veteran right-hander. He apparently wasn’t the subject of much interest before Tuesday’s deadline for non-waiver trades but is likely to clear waivers because he’s owed about $5.6 million, including the buyout of his 2019 option.

Shields has gone 3-9 with a 4.
