CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox helped 15 more high school baseball players achieve college scholarships, bringing the total to 106 scholarships earned since the club’s Amateur City Elite baseball program started in 2007.
Of the players that signed letters of intent during a ceremony at U.S. Cellular Field on Tuesday, five were from Simeon Career Academy, while two each were from Morgan Park High School and Mount Carmel High School.
The ACE program targets inner-city kids with the goals of recognizing high-caliber baseball talent, reversing the trend of declining African-American participation in baseball, and helping program participants succeed in life after baseball.
