The White Sox will designate left-hander John Danks for assignment this week following a 10-year major-league tenure with the organization, a source said Tuesday.
Danks has a 79-104 career record, a 4.38 ERA and $14.25 million owed to him for the final year of his five-year, $65 million contract. That deal became one of the bigger busts in recent Sox history because Danks needed shoulder surgery less than eight months after he signed the agreement.
Danks wasn’t the same pitcher after the surgery and hasn’t posted better than a 4.71 ERA in any season since.
