White Sox turn to rookie Dane Dunning to start the decisive Game 3 of their wild-card series against the A’s

OAKLAND, CALIF. — Rookie Dane Dunning will start for the Chicago White Sox in Game 3 of American League wild-card series against the Oakland Athletics Thursday at Oakland Coliseum.

Dunning went 2-0 with a 3.97 ERA in seven regular-season starts with 35 strikeouts and 13 walks in 34 innings.

Dunning pitched seven innings in a strong start against the Twins on Sept. 15 at Guaranteed Rate Field, allowing one earned run and three hits while striking out seven in a 6-2 win. But he’s allowed eight earned runs in seven innings in his last two starts. He allowed four earned runs, three hits and walked three Saturday against the Cubs at Guaranteed Rate Field.
